As a Software Engineer, you’ll create cutting edge software for our hardware. You’ll be involved in the entire lifecycle of a product, from design and development to integration.
From head-up displays and flight controls to missile targeting systems, the quality of our software is every bit as important as our hardware. In this key role, you’ll be responsible for the code that underpins these products. It’s a challenge that will see you getting involved in the entire development lifecycle of a product, from requirements capture to design, development, testing and integration.
As well as writing code, you’ll find yourself carrying out a whole range of important tasks – from communicating with clients and creating UML diagrams to assisting with final system integration.
Work closely with both Electronic and Systems engineers, you'll enable the development of complex real-world systems that have to perform perfectly every time, as the consequences of failure could be catastrophic.
Apply your talent where it counts.
We expect great things of our graduates. In return, you can expect a generous salary with a comprehensive benefits and pension package, including 25 days’ annual holiday with flexible leave arrangements, senior mentoring, and product and service discounts.

Overview of business unit
All roles within Maritime - Submarines are restricted to British citizens who do not hold dual nationality.

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
Today we are the prime contractor in the Astute programme and the UK’s only designer and builder of nuclear powered submarines – one of the world’s most complex engineering challenges. The first three submarines in the class, HMS Astute, HMS Ambush and HMS Artful, are now in service with the Royal Navy and the final four Astute class submarines are at various stages of construction at the Barrow site.
We are also the industrial lead for the Dreadnought programme, the Royal Navy’s next generation of nuclear deterrent submarines. Construction of the first of four submarines, named Dreadnought, began last year.
Our Submarines business employs approximately 8,700 people and in 2017 we spent around £700m with over 700 suppliers.
