Civil and Structural Engineering Graduate Programme

Job description

Over the course of two to four years, you’ll learn that civil engineering is all about people. It’s about making public services and facilities better – and everyone’s everyday life easier. From building the next generation of nuclear power stations to supporting the Royal Navy, your work here will have a real impact on making our world safer, simpler and better connected.

Where you can join us
Places on our Civil Engineering graduate programme for Autumn 2019 are available within our marine, land and nuclear sectors. But no matter which team you join, you could be based anywhere in the UK. That’s why we ask all our graduates to be flexible and willing to move during their programme.

What you'll be doing
The possibilities are many and varied. You may be helping to modernise facilities and infrastructure or designing cutting-edge structures for the nuclear industry. We do a lot of work for the Ministry of Defence, which alone offers a whole world of varied opportunities. You might even work with the Royal Navy to adapt the UK’s dockyard services to meet the demands of a modern naval fleet. Whatever you work on, you can be sure you’ll be making a real difference to everyday life in the UK.

What you'll get out of it
We’re passionate about learning. And we encourage our people to pursue accreditation with professional bodies – especially our engineers. We’ll support you on the road to Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status, and give you a competitive starting salary of £28k-£30k.* So after the programme you’ll be ready to take on your first permanent role as an engineer.

*Depending on location, role and qualifications.

What we are looking for

  • You’ll need to satisfy the Ministry of Defence’s security requirements (and may need to complete a medical assessment).

Qualifications

A 2:2 MEng (Hons) degree is vital. And because the programme is accredited by the IMechE, IET, RINA, ICE and IOP, your degree will need to be accredited by the relevant institution too.

Accepted degree subjects

  • transport engineering
  • aerospace engineering
  • chemical engineering
  • mechanical engineering
  • electronic and electrical engineering
  • civil engineering and construction
